Strength In Self (Ages 13-18)
If you are a youth seeking support to work through a mental, emotional or other daily challenge, our Strength In Self program might be for you. Our team of Youth & Family Enhancement Counsellors are here to provide support and connection, a listening ear & guidance through challenging periods of your life.
You will work one-on-one with a counsellor and be invited to choose where and how you meet. Space is available at our offices, at Brooks Secondary, or anywhere in the community you feel comfortable talking about the issues at hand. During the meet ups, your counsellor will help you think about your life, identify and explore your strengths, and make a plan for tackling the obstacles you face in living your life the way you want to.
You will make a map together over ten sessions – a map for your life. This will be something you can hold on to in the days ahead and refer back to when life feels difficult. People say these maps stay with them for many years and become tools to guide some of their most important decisions.
It’s your life. We’re here to help you map out the way you want to live it.
Parent & Teen
Conflict Resolution
This program (PTCR) provides a process for resolving conflict between two parties in need of a neutral person to help facilitate a safe, constructive, and collaborative conversation regarding ongoing problems. Services include teen-to-teen conflict resolution, and parent-teen conflict resolution, and include an open referral and service to School District #47.
We are also available to facilitate groups for parents and/or youth around conflict and communication, as needed. The PTCR process prioritizes confidentiality, respect and safety. This is a voluntary service and it is imperative that both parties are willing to participate to find resolution together.
Youth Engagement Support (Ages 13-18)
The YES Program provides one-on-one, individualized support and practical skills training to youth who are living independently (or transitioning towards living independently), and who are experiencing challenges. This program is both voluntary and collaborative. Occasional group activities or programs are also offered.
Note: eligibility for this program is via referral MCFD or SD47. Youth experiencing challenges related to independent living and wellbeing can self-refer to YES.
Youth
Justice Worker
We provide services for youth who have been involved in a crime and referred to our Youth Justice Program by the provincial government’s Youth Probation Officer (YPO) under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
This program provides one-on-one support in prosocial activities, health, education, employment, fostering positive relationships with others and problem-solving skills to reduce risk for re-offending. Services may also include the provision of intensive supervision for youth in need of increased support to meet the terms of their probation.
