Youth & Family is delighted to collaborate with Powell River Public Library and Tla’amin Nation ‘s Child Development Resource Centre on Listening Paths story series. Lesley Sutherland our Early Years and Orca Bus Coordinator, will start off the series with songs and stories at DA Evans Park on Tuesday, August 4th from 10-10:45am.
“Stories can be shared in many ways. They can be spoken, written, sung, drawn or danced – held in memory and passed down through generations of storytellers or kept in a book and brought to life in the imagination of a reader. They can be enjoyed around a fire or explored on a walk outdoors. In a group or all alone, in their many forms, stories have one thing in common: they love to be shared!
In this 3-part series, we invite caregivers and preschoolers to join local storytellers in a variety of outdoor locations around qathet, reflecting the diversity of stories that enrich our communities and our lives and help us make sense of the world we share. Everyone welcome!
August 4, 10:00-10:45am – Join us at beautiful DA Evans Park for songs and stories with Lesley Sutherland, Youth & Family’s Early Years/Orca Bus Coordinator.
August 11, 10:00-10:45am – Join us at Sunset Park in Wildwood, located on Lois St., for an interactive, sensory-rich storywalk of A Stone Sat Still by Brendan Wenzel led by PRPL’s Children’s Services Coordinator, Sonia.
August 18, 10:00-10:45am – Join us at the beach at Waterfront, located at the end of ɬaʔəmɩn ʔɛmɛn (Tla’amin Road), in t̓išosəm for an open-air recitation lead by a storyteller from the ɬaʔəmɩn Nation. Enjoy the warm weather and ocean breeze while we come together in a shared experience of story and community.”
